The DVD is burned! I'm over all happy with how everything came out, and the drums are growing on me:-) I wish I had known AfterEffects, and this whole experience has prompted me to sign up for the AfterEffects class this summer! I know I'll see some of you there! I'm definitly glad I had to go through this process, because now I know all of the preparation andthinking ahead that needs to be done. A procrastinator like me will definitly remember this class during thesis time. Thanks to all of you who have helped me and given me great advice! Enjoy!

And I believe I am finished! I hope so anyway. I think that the effects came out pretty good considering my experience with after effects and everything else came together pretty well. I would really appreciate any final suggestions, because I have been looking at this project way too much to figure out if tehre is anything else I should try to do to improve it. Thanks for the help!

I have gotten together the editing...I actually put smoke and fire in! Yay for me! Anyway, I believe I'm almost done after hours of trying to figure out Aftereffects....we'll see what Mike thinks:-) I wish I had known AfterEffects a little bit better, I think things would have definitly gone smoother. At least my sister will think this turned out great! (She was the actress!) I'll be posting my "fine cut" in a few!

This is what I have for my rough cut so far, I'm not sure if I'm loving the drums, but I thought it might be funny to have a symbol at the end, and they kind of have a fast paced feeling like the short itself. I still have to add effects which I'm trying to figure out how to do. Let me know what you think!

So, I'm kind of nervous but kind of releaved. I finally somewhat learned hwo to do the majority of my project, which brings relief. However, this means I actually have to DO it in the next week, on top of all of my other projects....nervous! I'll get it done, I always do, but I drive myself crazy trying to do it. So I'm actually not going to post anything today....I have all of my final pictures, but I'm not working on the layering and effects in AfterEffects, so I dont really have anything final that I haven't posted yet. Next thing I post will be my final piece hopefully, so we'll see how the next week goes. Thanks for your help Mike! (and Jon and Young!)

Over the past week I have done some revisions to the timing of my animatic shots as well as look for different sound effects. I am now pretty happy with the timing I have. The sound effects were pretty fun to work with, but I'm still looking for a few other ones that would make my 3o seconds more interesting. Since I'm now on a mac, I'm not sure if I'll be able to post! We'll see. Keep in mind that in this animatic, everytime there is a cut to another shot, that will eventually be a span, but I have to learn how to do that in Final Cut. I'm also really hoping we're going to learn more effects in the next class, my project is all about photo layering and I'm a little scared that i'm still not entirely sure how to do it. That's why I haven't put real shots in my story reel yet. Hopefully next week I'll know more about what I should be doing.

So here is what I have so far for the animatic. I think the timing needs to be tweaked a little bit. I may take out the first and last shots completely in order to give some more frames to the quick moving shots in the middle. I want the audience to be able to tell what they are looking at (that's important, right?) Let me know what you think. (Sorry about the emails Mike!)

I've been trying to get a little bit more familiar with Final Cut Pro before posting my blog. I think I might have gotten something worth posting, but there are still some kinks with the timing. I will post it as soon as its ready. I think the scenes go a little fast at the end, so I may remove the last shot completely. Also, I want to get a little bit more familiar with how to zoom and span in the shots in Final Cut, because that would help me relay my idea better.

Over the past week I have been taking new pictures and doing new "storyboards" for my animatic since I have changed my script so much. That was easy enough, trying to remember how to work Final Cut Pro is a different story. I think I have my shots together like I want them, but I want to make sure I did it right before posting it on the blog. I also have to ask my to refresh me on how to make a Quicktime through FCP....so basically I have nothing for you right now! More to come...plus my redone script...hopefully by tomorrow!

I've talked to Mike a bunch of time in the last week and I think I really, for real this time, have my ideas straight. The timelines and shotlist really helped me pan everything out. I'm excited to see what my ideas look like after the paper process. This last week has been crazy trying to get everything together. I've simplified my idea, a lot, with Mike's help, and now I can see myself actually doing and completing this. It is much more realistic for the 30 second time we have. I'll be putting up yet another version of a script, let's hope its the last one!

Since both of my actors have been gone over spring break its been tough for me to get a chance to get them together and take some photos for the story boards...but finally we all were able to get together. I assured them that they didn't have to look great (they had both just gotten out of the shower) because I was going to make them look like drawings in photoshop anyway. Besides getting the actors together, I've been thinking more about my idea and the timing, and I think it will definitly work out. I just need to figure out a song for the background...still need to ask Mike about copyrights! I also have to figure out how to shoot the "pot on fire" scene. It actually has happened to me, but I'm not so sure if I should recreate it. Anyway, I'm not so sure if my storyboard links work...so let me know! I think the files may be too large.

So far, I've been reworking my ideas a few times. I think I've finally gotten to a point where I can work from, the idea seems to be concrete now. My sister (one of the actors) just got home from Florida last night, so we can start filming as soon as I learn more about the process. I think I may also have to recruit a few more actors besides my two roomates, because that would give me more to work with as far as the different scenes. I think our neighbor would get involved, and I may get my other sister from Poughkeepsie to come down and help out as well (she's the actor of the family). I figured out the scenes, but now I have to figure out exact locations and what time of day/equipment would be best to use. I'm hoping I can get a little help in that area, since I've never done this whole "film shooting" thing. Even though my project will probably have only 15 seconds of real live video, I have a feeling this will be quite a process.

I made a style frame based on the first and last quick overview scenes in my project. I thought this would be the best way to go since some of my project will be in live video, and going from layered photos to the live video. In this style frame, I am trying to show the overall style (real photography) and how the camera will span into the first photo from this first scene. The rest of the transitions will not be through this cork board, but will transition from one photo to another. It will be much easier to see what I am talking about when we do the storyboards, because then I can show different stages of the project. The grey color you see in the layered photo is meant to represent smoke, coming from the cooking scene in my script.

I've been reworking my script, and I think I came up with something that flows a little better. I also talked to my "actors" and set up some time to take some pictures for my style frame, but I think the idea will come across better once we do storyboards. Take a look. My Final Script...I think!

I am putting up 2 links to two different types of scripts I wrote. I'm not sure which one works better. The first script details where the camera will be going during the time range. The second script is a second my second detail so that both myself and the reader knows that there will be enough time during the 30 second dvd to move through the photos and span across the fridge. Remember, I am going for fast paced here, but still easy to understand what you're looking at.

I've done some thinking about my ideas for my project (with Mike's help) and I am now trying to figure out just the details. Mike commented that my theme of girls just arriving to live in NYC should be fast paced, and I need a background to support that. Mike also said that I shouldn't be in the project, just directing it, which is absolutely fine with me. As you all know, my acting skills leave a lot to be desired. So both my roommates, my friend and my sister, have agreed (I told them they really didn't have a choice) to act as the "new girls in NYC", which they pretty much are as of December. Instead of using a photo album background, I have decided to use Polaroid photo's on a fridge, so that the spanning can be faster and the theme links more to a new apartment. I want to use Polaroids so that there can be name captions on the pictures, making it more like the opening credits of a sitcom. Since I want the theme to convey a feeling of being young and having fun, I want to have the background setting the fridge in a sort of messy kitchen. There will not be too much time spent on the bacjground however, so I think I'm going to use photo layering in a kind of cartoonish way for the kitchen scene. I don't want to use too much video, because I want the segments where the photos come alive to be a suprise, and to be of there own style. If any one has any suggestions about my latest brain storming, I would love to know!

Well I think that's the link to my program treatment, if I did this right! I have been thinking a lot about my project and its specifics in the last week, and I think I have a pretty solid idea. Now I just have to covince the roomates to be my actors, they'll love it I'm sure. If anyone has any good soundtrack ideas please let me know! (I'm thinking along the lines of "Friends").

I've been thinking about exactly what I should do for my project, and I think I've decided on the photo album. I think I'm going to have the pictures actually "come alive" when the camera enters them (done with video). I have to decide what the theme of my photgraph will be and what type of soundtrack it will be set to. I've talked to my roommates this week, because I will need actors and it seems like the best idea to use them since they are always around and probably the people I have the most pictures of. Any ideas about interesting photograph themes would be appreciated. :-)

Description: A tourist is walking through different neighborhoods in NYC. An actor walks and takes in the sites while in realtime scenes are changing around him.

Theme: Daydream Technique: Layering
Description: You "wake up" inside a painting (to be determined). You are taken through different layers and views inside a painting.

Theme: Picture Album Technique:Photo Layering
Description: A picture album on a coffee table made up of 2D images. Each photo in the album is an individual photograph that is layered in three dimensions.

3 Images from DG Magazine, new art International and Archive Magazine.
I chose the first (exotic flowers) because it really jumped out at me, it uses photoshop and illustrator. I really love the overlapping and uses of the watercolor feature. Even though it is 3D, the image seems to move and jump off of the page. I chose the "smoking heart" image because I really love photography of this nature. It is so unnatural, and yet seems like there is no trick when you look at it. I also thought this may be a good way to start to explore medical visualization, although this image is not factual. I liked the third image because I enjoy images made from mixed media. I love seeing texture and brush stroked in a work. I picked these three images because they are all very different and show different ways to work with a 2D surface.
